Heidegger's Lab 2018
There are filters between ourselves and the world around us. The group Heidegger’s Laboratory is inspired by the philosopher’s essay 'The Thing'. It investigates the meaning of objects beyond the tangible world using the formal elements of water and a piece of lab glassware. Imprints of water surfaces are presented in a clear resin overlaying a variety of optical filters and gratings. This makes them appear in a different light from different angles. A pixilated or sliced copy of the glassware is made in silver referencing its form but devoid of its function as a container.
This distorted presentation serves as a contemplation on reality, the world we live in, and the metaphysical meaning of objects.
